There’s a dark side to the Diet industry.
The side that leaves in its wake the bodies of battered and broken people lying on a carpet of shattered dreams and hopes.
I know the last paragraph sounds a bit dramatic but if you’ve ever been overweight and struggling to change then you’ll know what I mean......and I don’t mean just a few pounds overweight, I’m talking about 30 pounds plus.
Weight which is tougher to lose because of the time thats passed. Like an unused engine slowly rusting over time.
The Dark Side
It comes in the form of marketing and false promises...
Ultra low calorie diets
Ineffective products (we've all seen the crunch machine ads!!)
Poor quality ingredients
Rapid weight loss programmes
Celebrity endorsements
And the list goes on.....
We get bombarded with messages every day and the belief that if it works for one person then why can’t it work for me!
So we throw ourselves to the marketing wolves in the hope that the next product will be the one to melt our fat away easily and in 30 days too!
What we didn’t bargain for was all the things that lie in wait for us by constantly putting our bodies through the dietary mill....Type 2 Diabetes being just one.
Its not just our bodies either, our mind also takes a battering.
The loss of confidence, mood swings and social withdrawal are also a bi-product, making it more difficult to take the action that would truly make the difference. Action that would provide you with the healthy body you seek.
What makes this situation worse is the fact that we brought it on ourselves. We chose to eat the food, we chose the diet to follow, to drink the shakes and in some cases, to starve ourselves….it might sound harsh but we must face the cold reality.
It’s also not an apportion of blame but a recognition of the trials we face, and I write this as someone who has travelled the same path, and who still has to make changes in his life.
Dragging You Into The Light
Another dramatic title but one which really does get to the heart of the matter. I say this because it IS THE SOLUTION to the problem we face and the desires we seek.
Now brace yourself!!
I’m going to share with you the 3 Key areas you need to address.....and its nothing you’ve not heard before, I just hope you HEAR the message clearly, then take ACTION!
Food
Quality ingredients from good sources. Meals containing lean protein sources and lots of veggies. Never mind the 5 portions of veg a day, try for 7 and get lots of variety. Cut out all the processed foods and sweets etc as best you can.
You know all this already so accept the need and buy in for the long haul, although I readily admit that I'm far from perfect on this front.
Exercise
Go do some!
I don’t really care what kind of exercise you do, just make it regular and appropriate.
Lift weights if you can but doing something will always be better than doing nothing at all.
Not really rocket science is it!
Mindset
Get your head straight and believe in yourself.....
Surround yourself with those who would encourage you towards your goal
Become knowledgeable on the subject of food and exercise, etc. Read, watch, listen to podcasts (you'll find some suggestions here)...ask me to point you in the right direction, whatever works
Accept that your physical transformation will take time (months rather than weeks)
Accept that at times it won’t always be easy
Accept that things will go awry and you’ll mess up from time to time
Accept that some things in your life MUST change
Its taken me years to learn the “get help” message. The investment of time and money gets you to where you want to be faster and with less errors.
Ask yourself the question......
What do I need and where do I start?
Then get a pen and paper, and write down what you really want to achieve!
